Topic: Getting an SSD
Intel X25-M G2
To give a little idea of the performance difference between a normal HDD and an SSD
Velociraptor is the fastest mainstream hdd there is.

The only weakeness the SSD has is sequential write, which is at the level of a normal hdd

surprised you didn't post the boot up speed graph.

Re: Getting an SSD
why do people keep referring to SSD's as HDD's lmao? you can call it an 80gb drive, or 80gb storage, but not an 80gb hdd. that's like referring to a digital camera as a film camera, it's just retarded.

Re: Getting an SSD
The question is: why? For faster windows use? I can't find any good reason for myself to buy an SSD which obviously isn't your case though.

It speeds up your entire PC. It will boot up quicker, it will run programs faster, your pc will virtually be quicker than it was before. Not many people realize, but the read/write speed of a HDD/SSD really can speed up your entire pc.
Plus they're more stable. You can drop it and unless it chips or breaks, it's fine. And no spinning discs, so no noise.
I want a SSD pretty badly, but they price is intense. I don't have that money to just throw for an 80GB SSD. I would need atleast 128GB for Windows installation+games+programs.

100 gb would have been perfect size, kinda sucks trimming down to 80 (well around 74-76 gb)

true. i could manage with 74gb, but it would be hard. especially if you wanted to get another game, like bad company 2 or something

IMO I don't think so. SSD's won't be a standard for a while. And even at that, HDD's aren't really obsolete either.. the raptors still work pretty well, and they could maybe squeeze some performance out of future HDD's. The price might drop some, but they wont be $50 for 80gb.
Also, SSD's don't need defragmenting.. which is pretty cool. I just checked my HDD for fragmentation, and 17% of it was fragmented, which is a lot since only 43GB is actually space, and 422GB is freespace.

I was thinking about getting one, though the write limits kind of worry me.
