Topic: So yeah ...

Ok so I workout a lot. Eat heavy/ great and love the feeling of the pump. Besides the fact that Americans don't give a crap about their health obviously, you can just walk anywhere and you will see a fat person. I was wondering what other people think about this? I mean is it that hard to learn what to eat and what not to eat. This will be kind of long but ill take my dad for example, he knows nothing about health/nutrition, yet he has high blood pressure, cholesterol and is obese. I've tried to help him eat correctly and he's lost some weight. Do people really not care about how they look? I mean you don't have to do what i do, but at least care about the only body you got. Just to end this if he ate correctly in his younger years he wouldn't be wasting thousands on medications to make him function properly. I don't know where I'm getting at but what the hell, why are people so fat then complain they are? I'm just sick of a fat/lazy America.

Not everyone has the funds to pay for a healthy lifestyle.  Albeit they could always exercise, what kind of food you eat/what job you have could affect any free time you may have or may be willing to put towards exercising.

You don't need funds really.
Infact, if the average person didn't buy shit food, they'd save money.
Sure protein shakes and what not are expensive, but not everyone needs it.
And don't say gym memberships, you don't necessarily need one - not to mention if you're that poor, your local YMCA offers scholarships for their recreation.

BUT, people are afraid to give up addictions like chocolate, soda, cigarettes etc.
People think if they're dieting, they give up taste, when you can just cut your snacking to 0, and eat 3 squares a day.
Advertising is a big role in American health as well, people buy exercise equipment and because they have it they think tomorrow they'll have those beach bodies like the models on T.V., food commercials, etc.

Not to write an essay, but I am also sick of it.

Re: So yeah ...

There are also genetic factors. But yea, I agree in a way. But, as Tyler said, healthy food is usually more expensive than unhealthy food (which is fucking retarded).

Re: So yeah ...

Yeah i agree, i think people can remotely eat healthy not saying like oh crap only organic blah blah. But i mean you can seriously eat well if you try. No one tries or gives a freak, and most people that dont care are the kids really then they wind up with health problems, being fat and wishing they didnt do it. Everyone does care what they look like i dont give a shit who you think you are.

you always act like you hate the world. I think you need some therapy. So angry all the time. Is it so bad to just question why people don't care about their health? No yet you get pissed and start throwing around insults for no reason.
Anyway I think it's pretty easy to eat healthy. And it's more satisfying to me. Like said people just don't want to give up their addictions. I've given up wanting candy and anything that I really can easily do without.

Re: So yeah ...

I constantly ply myself with drugs and alcohol, remembering to eat fruit seems sorta redundant.

Complete BS people saying they can't afford a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy is FAR cheaper then eating junk food. It is simply not easier.

On a $20 budget I would be able to pick up enough fresh fruit and vegetables to create about 3/4 of all my daily meals for a week.

For $10 I'd be able to pick up enough lean meat to get me through the week (Could have fresh cut turkey, chicken, tuna etc)

Another $20 I'd be able to buy a ton of grains/nuts to have as snacks and to compliment the other stuff I bought. Some juices, breads etc. also.

Really for less then $50 ($$AUD) I'd be able to buy enough fresh, healthy food to last me for a week. I wouldn't be skimping on any meals either.

Compare that $50 to eating fast food:
$5 every morning for breakfast ($35 a week)
$5 every day for lunch ($35 a week)
$5 every day for dinner ($35 a week)

Throw ontop of that maybe a soda/soft drink a day ($15 a week) snacks like chips/pretzels or candy bars ($15 a week)

That alone adds up to around $140 a week. Compare that to the $50 and you can see that it's a fuck load cheaper to be eating fresh and healthy. I personally don't do it, though I probably should start to do so (I feel like shit at the moment eating all this fast food). I think a popular misconception a lot of people have is that they think they need to be drinking protein shakes and taking costly vitamin supplements every day to actually be "healthy" It's complete bullshit and unless, like Synthetic, you're do intense physical conditioning there is no reason to take it as all the fruit/veg/nuts/meats you eat are more then plenty.

@ Rai: Be creative with that food you get. My favourite breakfast is mixing oats (not boiled, just raw) with dried fruit mixes, some nuts (almonds, cashews) and then pouring it over a bowl of vanilla yogurt.  Put some sliced banana or mashed strawberries on top and eat that bad boy. So good for you (Y). A lot of people would think this sort of thing is heaps expensive, but if you've bought the items in bulk previously it's very very cheap.

Let me revise what I wrote: You need to shop with common sense also. Don't buy premium cuts of meat, don't buy fruit which is out of season and thus highly expensive etc.

I was talking about deli cut meats for lunches and the like. If you want a chicken breast or fillet however then just increase the budget smile

Re: So yeah ...

ye but whats some cheap protein to have with an evening meal of potatoes and such? Mince meat isn't cheap either. Cheap meat usually doesn't have much meat in it tongue.

Oh btw you can buy 25kg sacks of potatoes for like £5 Rai and they store well and last a while

We live in Britain mate, all fruit is out of season apart from apples and pears!

I'm probably not in a position to lecture you about food, i live on a pub diet; varying forms of sandwiches, fags and lager. (varying forms of sandwiches usually means Cheese, steak, chicken or pork & stuffing)
